I love the feeling of excitement of this term as we prepare for the next academic year. It is also a nice time to reflect on how much all the children have developed since September. The current reception class now seem so at home at school and the year 2s are certainly ready the challenges of key stage 2.
My group this half term is all the little ones who will be joing the reception class in September. This intake is all boys and all bar one is the younger brother of a child already in school; so our first story is very appropriate If I had a Dragon by Tom and Amanda Ellery. It’s about a little boy who is told to play with his little brother but he thinks his brother is too little to bother with. He wishes his younger brother was a dragon. By the end maybe his little brother isn’t so bad after all. This is a great visual book. Continue reading →
With St George’s Day so close I thought it was a great time to do a dragon craft. I researched the story of St George but I didn’t find any stories suitable to tell my reception year group. So I gave them a brief talk of St George being the english patron saint, they got the idea of patron saints from our recent St David’s Day session.
After this I told them Chris Wormell’s George and the Dragon story, which is about a dragon who is scared of a mouse (George). I love this story and it is definitely one my Little Man asks for often.
